Tips on finding transmission problems yourself

One auto repair for your car that is very expensive is doing some transmission repair. It is a major part of your vehicle.Making sure to care for it is important.  By taking care of your car you can save yourself a lot of money.  Since you can’t fix it yourself here are some ways to check it at home.By having some of the checking done at home you can see if it needs to be brought in.

First off since I own a Vista auto repair shop I know how expensive transmission repairs can be.  So I always tell my clients to check a couple of things first. This way you can verify if it has a need to be taken in.  First off they can check the fluid. The fluid needs to be real clear. If the fluid is dark or black that is an indication of a problem and they have to bring their car in.

Second thing they can check at home is to check the gear shifting. You can perform this by just shifting the gears from park to drive.  Or you can move it from park to reverse. What you are trying to see is if the gears do the shifting smoothly. What you hope doesn’t happen is a jerking motion.  If you do have jerking that is a sign that something is wrong with your tranmission.  In my La Costa transmission repair shop this is one of the big signs of transmission problems.Quite a few cars that are brought in have this problem.

Lastly you can see if there could be any leaking of your transmission fluid. This is another thing you can do with your dipstick.  But you can’t tell if you don’t check it regularly.  I advise all my customers in my La Costa auto repair shop to always check your fluids.  People are familiar with checking for oil.But their transmission fluid is something they need to check also. This gives you the ability to tell if the fluid is leaking.

If you perform these steps on your car you are making sure your transmission stays in good condition.
